Ener-G-Rotor, based in Rotterdam NY, is a manufacturer of the GEN4 System, a 40kW-60kW appliance that transforms low grade heat into electricity, increasing the energy efficiency and reducing the carbon footprint of operations. Recycled Energy Development, based in Westmont, IL, is a developer, owner and operator with decades of experience in the waste heat to power and combined heat and power industries. Alliance to Save Energy, a nonprofit organization based in Washington, DC, works closely with business, government, environmental and consumer leaders to promote energy efficiency worldwide through research, education and advocacy. And the SMU Geothermal Laboratory, at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX, has been on the front lines of geothermal research for over 40 years and is now applying that expertise to waste heat to power for oil and gas fields.

"We are extremely pleased to welcome these new members to the Association," said Tony Straquadine, Chairman of the Heat is Power Association and Manager of Government Affairs for NRGreen Power Ltd. "We look forward to all these new members becoming actively engaged in our efforts to promote the economic and environmental benefits of waste heat to power." Capturing waste heat's potential could generate as much as $3 billion in annual savings for American industry, create 160,000 new American jobs, and generate 10 GW of emission-free electricity—enough to power 10 million American homes.

“It is exciting to welcome these companies and associations who have all been active in promoting WHP in various venues. We all recognize that much more work lies ahead of us to educate decision makers about the need for a level playing field for emission-free waste heat to power with other forms of emission-free electricity, and look forward to our team growing stronger with our new members,” said Kelsey Southerland, Executive Director of The Heat is Power Association. “We are looking forward to leveraging their expertise for the benefit of the entire industry.”

“Waste heat is the largest opportunity for increased industrial efficiency in the U.S., and the technologies now exist to address those opportunities” said Michael Newell, CEO of Ener-G-Rotors. “Addressing these waste heat opportunities can reap huge rewards in emission-free electricity and improved competitiveness for all types of industries. We are very happy to work with Heat is Power to create a positive regulatory environment to speed deployment of these technologies.”

Dick Munson, Senior Vice President, Government Affair for RED, said “Recycled Energy Development is pleased to join the Heat is Power Association. We have been committed for years to working with state and federal decision makers to open markets for waste heat to power development. We are happy to join forces with an Association that shares this vision.”

“Waste heat to power is a very important and somewhat overlooked component of industrial energy efficiency and fits well within our mission to increase energy efficiency in all sectors in the U.S. and around the world. We are looking forward to working with the Heat is Power Association and its members to expand the implementation of waste heat recovery within the industrial sector,” said Alliance to Save Energy President Kateri Callahan.

Maria Richards, coordinator of SMU’s Geothermal Laboratory, is looking forward to their membership in The Heat is Power Association. “Our spring conference Geothermal Energy and Waste Heat to Power: Utilizing Oil and Gas Plays is the perfect platform to begin our partnership. The overlap in the technologies and approaches used in the two industries is enormous as we both focus on capturing energy that is often overlooked or discarded.”

The Heat is Power Association advocates for federal, state and local recognition of waste heat to power (WHP) as a reliable, abundant and emission-free source of electricity. Our efforts include educating policy makers, regulators, and energy and environmental stakeholders about the barriers to deployment of WHP technologies and advocating for fair and equivalent treatment of WHP. Our interests in policy development include eliminating barriers such as interconnection challenges to WHP deployment, gaining inclusion of WHP as an emission-free resource in state and federal clean energy programs such as renewable portfolio and energy efficiency standards, and obtaining equivalent tax treatment for WHP on the state and federal levels. As our membership increases, we continue to raise the profile, understanding and acceptance of waste heat as an abundant resource for emission-free electricity.

About The Heat is Power Association
The Heat is Power Association is the trade association of the Waste Heat to Power (WHP) industry. The not-for-profit organization is committed to educating decision makers and the public about the characteristics of waste heat to power as a source for emission-free electricity and an economic driver for global competitiveness. The Heat is Power Association promotes the efficient, industrial use of emission-free electricity generated through WHP processes.

Heat is Power Association members include: TAS Energy, GE Energy, Primary Energy Recycling Corporation, Alliance Pipeline, NRGreen Power, Pratt & Whitney Power Systems, Alliance to Save Energy, Alphabet Energy, Barber-Nichols, Echogen, ElectraTherm, Ener-G-Rotors, Guardian Industries, Gulf Coast Green Energy, Hudson Products Corp, Hyundai Ideal, Integral Power, Recycled Energy Development, Smardt Chillers Group, SMU Geothermal Laboratory, Turbo Thermal.

About Ener-G-Rotors
Ener-G-Rotors is commercializing devices based on a near frictionless gerotor expander in an Organic Rankine cycle that turns low temperature heat into electricity, opening up a new market in waste heat utilization and changing the technology landscape for solar thermal and geothermal installations. Our customers can now efficiently recover some of the estimated 15 quadrillion BTUs of low grade waste heat generated in the U.S. by combined heat and power plants, industrial processes, and commercial buildings. In many cases, the payback on these investments is less than two or three years.

About Recycled Energy Development (RED)
RED develops, owns and operates power projects that harness waste energy and dramatically reduce manufacturers’ greenhouse gas emissions and power costs. With more than 30 years experience undertaking environmentally responsible energy development projects, RED’s team works closely with industrial companies to optimize energy efficiency and maximize profits.

About Alliance to Save Energy
Alliance to Save Energy is a nonprofit organization that promotes energy efficiency worldwide through research, education and advocacy. We encourage business, government, environmental and consumer leaders to use energy efficiency as a means to achieve a healthier economy, a cleaner environment and greater energy security.

About the SMU Geothermal Laboratory
The SMU Geothermal Laboratory supplies vital information on the renewable energy source tapped from the Earth's internal heat. In over 45 continuous years as a center of excellence, SMU's Geothermal Laboratory has been awarded over $9M from the U.S. Department of Energy, the National Science Foundation, the Texas State Energy Office, Google.org and others, to research this source of clean renewable energy. Additionally, the SMU Geothermal Lab is the host of the conference dedicated to utilizing the geothermal energy and surface waste heat associated with oil and gas development. As authors of the Geothermal Map of North America (1992, published by Geological Society of America; 2004, published by American Association of Petroleum Geologists; 2011 update online at Google.org/egs), the SMU Geothermal Lab knows Geothermal.
