Connecticut-based Schlar Consulting Group, a leading digital marketing agency, announced today that they are the first marketing company in the state to run their entire business operations on locally generated solar electricity. The company’s founder and president, Sherman Schlar, was motivated to explore the use of solar electricity after learning that Connecticut businesses and consumers face the second highest electric utility rates in the country. After surveying the marketplace for ways to lessen the cost of electricity and reduce the company’s carbon dioxide footprint, the Schlar Consulting Group found that photovoltaic solar panels presented an extremely viable and cost effective alternative to conventional utility-based electricity.

The company went with a 3.6kW DC solar electric system from Silicon Valley-based SolarCity, the country’s largest provider of solar electric systems. Sherman Schlar stated: “We expect to reduce our overall CL&P electric bill by 70% annually with the switch to solar electricity. We are delighted with the creative pricing options available from SolarCity and have found their service and technical support to be excellent. We’re especially excited to begin tracking our solar electric power output using SolarCity’s innovative web-based monitoring software”.

In an effort to further reduce its environmental footprint, the Schlar Consulting Group is considering further green options, including the use of a high performance electric bicycle for around town business trips. The company has already seen a reduction in electrical consumption with a partial switchover to LED office lighting. As for future company car purchases, Sherman Schlar said “We will definitely consider a pluggable hybrid electric car for our next vehicle purchase.”
