Doylestown, PA, United States, 2007/01/02 - Armada Health Care, a GPO focused solely on the specialty pharmacy segment, has taken the initiative to draft an industry definition for what is -and what is not- “Specialty Pharmacy.” Armada looking to industry stakeholders for feedback by 2/15/07.
To validate their findings, Armada is looking for key industry stakeholders - specialty pharmacies, biotech manufactures, and specialty wholesalers and distributors - to complete a survey/questionnaire by February 15, 2007. The survey can be found on Armada’s website, under the “Help Define Specialty Pharmacy” link.
According to Lawrence Irene, Armada CEO, “Specialty Pharmacy has been rapidly growing and evolving over the last few years, and new product pipelines support the forecasts of a continued high rate of growth. And the role of highly trained Specialty Pharmacists with their care team partners is increasing as they deliver more high tech pharmaceutical products and services to patients afflicted with life threatening/altering medical conditions. We are excited to be undertaking this important project and believe that industry input is critical to helping us define Specialty Pharmacy and establish industry standards.” Based on survey feedback, Armada will present a draft definition at their upcoming 3rd Annual Specialty Pharmacy Summit to be held in Las Vegas from March 7 -9, 2007. Participants will have the opportunity to consider and formally adopt a consensus definition of Specialty Pharmacy that can be supported and embraced by industry stakeholders.
Armada – Taking Specialty Pharmacy to a New Level
In September 2006, Armada solicited feedback from more than 100 specialty pharmacy attendees to help define a comprehensive definition of specialty pharmacy during Armada’s 2nd Annual Summit. Based on their findings, the summit identified four categories that comprise Specialty Pharmacy:
• The Specialty Pharmacy Delivery Channel - what sets us apart from traditional retail or other delivery models?
• The Specialty Pharmacy Business Model – how do we measure success in meeting the needs of our challenging customer base?
• Specialty Patient Satisfaction – how do we measure success in meeting the needs of our challenging customer base?
• The Specialty Pharmacy Service Model – how do we distinguish our service in two ways, including the sub-categories
• Clinical Service – focusing on pharmacological care, expert fulfillment, and patient management
• Administrative – handling the practical aspects of pharmacy efficiently, with minimal trouble, and little or no adverse impact on patient care.
More details on the summit findings can be obtained by going to Armada’s homepage, under the “Specialty Summit Summary & Findings” link.
