TRxCARE (trxcare.com) and Gilead Sciences today announced the launch of TRxETM, an innovative treatment and adherence support service customized for patients with HIV.
In the treatment of patients with HIV infection, adherence to medication (known as highly active antiretroviral therapy - HAART) is vital to control viral replication and improve immune function. As such, it is essential to achieve more than 95 percent adherence to HAART to suppress viral replication and avoid the emergence of resistance. However, achieving such high rates of adherence is very challenging to patients. As a result medication non-adherence is a growing concern to clinicians, healthcare systems, and other stakeholders because of mounting evidence that it is associated with adverse outcomes and higher costs of care. The reasons for poor medication adherence are often multifactorial and can be managed by offering differing interventions.
One such intervention the new TRxETM service enables patients to maintain and better manage their treatment via a cloud-enabled smart phone application. By providing medication prompts and personalized interventions along with directions, which may include specific dietary requirements, TRxETM offers patients comprehensive treatment support. This is to ensure that patients remember to take their HIV treatment – the right way, the right time and to get the best results out of their prescribed treatment.
“TRxE is the product of many years of research experience. It enables patients and healthcare professionals to collaborate and to work as a team to continuously optimize treatment delivery, track outcomes, schedule clinic appointments and communicate utilizing secure instant messaging,” says TRxCARE CEO Markus Glimm.“ He adds,“It allows patients to become active participants in their own care and provides access to a library of resources of reliable and up-to-date content that enhances the patient’s ability to better understand relevant medical information.”
TRxETM connects to cloud services and runs on iPhones and Android phones, as well as on iPad and tablets running the Android operating system. A version for Blackberry and Nokia phones is in the works and will be released soon. The software/service is offered to patients taking one of Gilead Sciences HIV treatments by their clinics.
