Paris, France, 2012/11/27 - Honeywell Aerospace and Safran are hosting a presentation on November 28, dedicated to the electric green taxiing system (EGTS) (NYSE: HON) (NYSE Euronext Paris: SAF) - HoneywellNow.com / Safran-Group.com. PAR: SAF | SAFRAN
KLM as a leading European Airline will participate with a presentation on it’s interest in electric taxi. Organized by the Airports Council International (ACI), the presentation takes place at Airport Exchange 2012 in Amsterdam, to an audience representing the world’s leading airports.
EGTS allows aircraft to taxi without requiring the use of aircraft engines, instead using the auxiliary power unit (APU) generator to power motors in the main wheels. One wheel on each main landing gear is driven by an electromechanical actuator, while unique power electronics and system controllers give pilots total control of the aircraft’s speed, direction and braking during taxi operations.
This innovative electric taxiing system will offer significant advantages for airports, including up to a two-minute improvement on each dispatch, optimized aircraft ground traffic, reduced gate and apron congestion, as well as greater gate availability. In addition, EGTS provides substantial green benefits to airports and the local environment, including reduced carbon, mononitrogen oxide (NOₓ) and other emissions and a reduced noise footprint.
Honeywell and Safran plan to make EGTS available for new aircraft in 2016, to be followed shortly by a retrofit option for aircraft already in service.
