Greensboro, NC, United States, 2006/12/22 - Cuddledown, the multi-channel retailer of luxury down products, will market down comforters, bedding, and other home fashions that are certified by Oeko-Tex to ensure that they are 'free' from harmful levels of dangerous chemicals.
The Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certification guarantees that textile products do not contain unsafe levels of more than 100 substances that could be hazardous for humans.
“The Oeko-Tex label is an assurance to our customers that Cuddledown products are completely safe to use in their homes, hotels, and inns and are manufactured to the highest ethical standards,” says Chris Bradley, Cuddledown’s CEO. “And when we use certified fabrics in our facilities, it creates a safer environment for our employees, too.” Cuddledown makes its down comforters individually by hand in its Portland, Maine production facility.
Interest in Oeko-Tex certified fabrics has been growing in the U.S. as consumers become more concerned about unwanted chemicals in their textiles, foods, and other products. Manfred Wentz, the U. S. director of Oeko-Tex, says, “European manufacturers and retailers focused on eco-friendly and human-friendly textiles in the last decade with great success and it is promising to see the same commitment and passion emerging now in the U. S.”
Bradley predicts that the luxury home fashions market will be very responsive to the textile human ecology message. “For our customers, Cuddledown’s quality is not only about how our products look and perform. Our customers also want to know that our products are safe to use for their families and guests and that we are sourcing our fabrics from reputable, responsible makers who respect their workers and the environment as much as we do. Oeko-Tex certification helps us meet that expectation.”
Cuddledown recently introduced an innovative line of mattress and pillow protectors that are Oeko-Tex certified. The Anti Bed-Bug Mattress Protector and Pillow Protector are made with all-natural wool infused with natural botanical extracts including lavender, lemon, eucalyptus, and chrysanthemum. The protectors do not simply repel bed bugs but have been proven in lab tests to actually kill them. The protectors are also effective against dust mites. The fiber treatment will eliminate bed bugs for up to five years and dust mites for up to ten. The protectors are now available online.
