“We’re pleased to provide this gift to help support students in pursuit of technical skills,” said Ron Widup, executive vice president of Shermco Industries. “Now more than ever we need to nurture the future workforce and encourage them to develop job skills that will lead cutting edge solutions involving complicated technologies.”

The Legacy Fund is available to students who need immediate financial assistance for tuition, books or rent and to faculty members for professional development, says Sophia Mullen, director of development for Texas State Technical College.

“The general fund helps both students and faculty by eliminating the time involved with the application process,” Mullen said. “It allows the college president to provide emergency funds at his discretion to help students who may be struggling financially to stay in school and ensure that our faculty are receiving the most up to date training.”

Executives from Shermco Industries are actively involved in promoting and supporting technical education. Widup, an alumni of Texas State Technical College, joined Department of Education Assistant Secretary Tom Luce and other educational leaders in a Summit on Education this past February.
