DTK Computer Middle East, one of the region’s leading brands of personal computers, notebooks and servers, has announced the latest addition to its highly successful FliNote series of high-end notebook PCs in the Middle East with the launch of the Z21 and Z31 models that offer a light weight solution in mobile computing combined with a high level of performance. Earlier this year, the company had launched the Z20 and Z30 models from this series, which have both performed exceedingly well across the regional markets.
The launch of DTK’s latest light weight mobile computing solution in the Middle East comes at a time when notebook sales in the region are witnessing a significant surge. A recent Madar Research study shows that in 2005 the sales of mobile PCs in the GCC countries recorded a total growth of 93 per cent compared to 2004. From an estimated 316,000 units in 2004, some 610,000 units of mobile PCs were sold in 2005, with the UAE recording a hundred-fold increase.
The Z31 has a 13” wide glare LCD screen for vivid picture display, weighs 1.85 Kgs, has three USB ports, four-in-one memory card reader, IEEE 1394 Firewire port, S-Video TV-Out, Smart Power II power management, and ‘instant on’ and silent mode operation that allow for longer battery life and noiseless functioning. The notebook comes with either a Mobile Intel Pentium Dual Core processor with a speed of up to 2.33GHz or a Mobile Intel Pentium Single Core processor and offers up to 120GB SATA hard drive.
The Z21, which comes with a 12.1” wide glare LCD screen, weighs 1.9 Kgs and has a Intel Merom Dual Core Processor. It has a four-in-one card reader, is wireless ready and supports 2GB DDR II. The Z21 is equipped with the ExpressCard Technology which is the next generation of the PC Card standard and like the Z31, this notebook PC also offers the ‘instant on’ and silent mode operation that ensure longer battery life and noiseless operation.
“The addition of Z21 and Z31 to the FliNote series of notebooks broadens the choice for consumers looking for light weight, high performance laptops. Like the other two models in the series which have been highly successful, the Z31 and Z21 offer the right mix of excellent design, value-added features and outstanding performance,” said Nimer Al Attal, Managing Director, DTK Computer Middle East.
The Madar Research study also showed that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) led the sales for mobile PCs in 2005 with an unprecedented 104 per cent increase compared to 2004. KSA was closely followed by the UAE with a 100 per cent increase. An estimated 245,000 mobile PCs were sold in KSA in 2005, while in the UAE, a total of 230,000 mobile PCs were sold last year. The phenomenal growth in mobile PC sales in the two countries has been driven primarily by corporate and small to mid-sized (SMB) business acquisitions, as many companies have started recognising the value of providing their employees with mobile PCs.
“The significant increase recorded in the sales of mobile PCs across the Middle East is an indication of the business potential for manufacturers of high quality mobility solutions. DTK is committed to continue its focus on offering products that are in line with existing market trends, and the timely launch of Z21 and Z31 fully complements this strategy,” Al Attal concluded.
