The Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) has announced two events that highlight distinguished industry guests. Entitled A Conversation With…, the discussion panels aim to provide the public and DIFF delegates alike with insight into the career of an established film professional.
Hannah Fisher, Programmer of DIFF’s Operation Cultural Bridge Segment, said, “this year’s guests are from very different filmmaking milieux--North Africa and Hollywood--but they share the characteristics of tenacity and vision that are key to a long career in film. These conversations will give a first-hand view of the behind-the-scenes work that goes into producing the cinema that we enjoy. It is both educational and inspirational.”
The first panel, at 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 12 in the Madinat Theatre, features Dora Bouchacha, a prominent Tunisian producer who has worked with the best directors in Africa, such as Abderrahmane Sissako, whose feature Bamako is part of the In Honour of Africa programming segment. One of her first major productions, Silences of the Palace (1994), was warmly received at international festivals. She has helmed Nomadis Images, her Tunisia-based production company, since 1995.
The second panel, at 11:00 am on December 13 in the Madinat Theatre, is dedicated to Barrie M. Osborne, producer of Lord of the Rings and Executive Producer of The Matrix. Mr. Osborne is a veteran who has been involved in film since the 1970’s, working behind the scenes on productions such as Francis Ford Coppola’s Apocalypse Now (1979), an epic production much like Lord of the Rings. Mr. Osborne’s long career in show business will enable him to discuss such topics as: international coproductions, working with the Hollywood star system, and amassing funds for multi-million dollar blockbusters.
The Dubai International Film Festival is in its third year, and will run from December 10 to 17, 2006.
