IMARC Group, one of the world's leading research and advisory firms, finds in its new report “Indian Agriculture Market Report & Forecasts 2012-2017” that the market for agricultural equipments in India is currently witnessing robust growth. Findings from the report suggest that during 2005-06 - 2011-12, this market exhibited a CAGR of 13.2%.

According to the report, there has been a sustained increase in the adoption of mechanization in an attempt to ensure a greater return on investment and sustainability of agriculture. The report suggests that the Indian farmer has continuously moved on from using animate sources to mechanical sources to power farming activities in the country. In 1971-72, drought animals and agricultural workers were used as sources to power 61% of the total agricultural activities. By 2011-12, however, this share declined to only 11%. Findings also suggest that during 1971-72 - 2011-12, tractors have represented the most popular mechanical source of carrying out agricultural activities. Tractors currently have numerous applications in farming practices which range from land development, ploughing, tilling, disking, harrowing, planting and various post harvest applications. Estimates from the report suggest that tractors currently accounts for 38% of the entire Indian agricultural equipments market.

The report finds that both Indian as well as multinational companies currently have a good presence in the Indian agricultural equipments market. Key Indian players include Mahindra & Mahindra, Tractors and Farm Equipment Limited, Punjab Agro Sales, Escorts Agri Machinery Group, HMT Limited etc. Apart from the Indian players, a number of multinational farm equipment manufacturers such as John Deere, New Holland, etc. are also operating in the country.

IMARC’s new report entitled “Indian Agriculture Market Report & Forecast: 2012-2017” provides an analytical and statistical insight into the agriculture industry along with its various segments and sub-segments. The study that has been undertaken using both desk-based and qualitative primary research has analyzed various aspects and provides a comprehensive understanding of the Indian agriculture market. The report can serve as an excellent guide for investors, researchers, consultants, marketing strategists, and all those who are looking to foray into the Indian agriculture market in some form or the other.
