The BBD Group of Educational Institutions, pioneers in technical and management education in the Lucknow region, put up an exclusive and first of its kind robotic exhibition in the city on 31 July, 2012. The exhibition aimed to create awareness among students about the Robotics industry and its potential as an important field in technical education. The programme, ‘Robo Mania’, was held in association with PurpleLeap, a Pearson-Educomp company and a pioneer in entry level talent management. The exhibition was inaugurated by Prof (Dr) A.K. Mittal, Hon. Vice Chancellor BBD University.
Across the world, Robotics is fast becoming a catalyst for advancements in sectors like consumer electronics, medicine and automobile engineering. In India, the industrial application of Robotics is beginning to take off while Robotics education in any scale is struggling to catch up. Along with building expertise in Robotics education, there is an acute need to build awareness and understanding of the basic concepts of Robotics and embedded devices, for students to be drawn to this exciting domain. The exhibition showcased the basics of building intelligent machines and provided guidance and understanding for beginners. As Robotics deals with mechanical, electronics and computer science engineering concepts, the exhibition was of interest to more than one stream of engineering students.
Speaking on this occasion Hon. Vice Chancellor BBD University Prof. (Dr) A.K. Mittal said,“Through this exhibition we wanted to create awareness among our students about the world of embedded systems and intelligent machines, while also spurring them to come up with their own ideas and innovations. Working with partners like PurpleLeap helps institutions like ours bring such specialized streams to the large talent pool that exists in smaller cities.”
Nancy, a student from BBD college who participated in the exhibition said,“It was a great opportunity for us to showcase our ideas in designing and developing embedded systems. We also got a chance to see the various interesting ideas other students came up with. The exhibition gave us a clear picture of the career opportunities in this stream.”
At the exhibition, visitors had the chance to see the vast range of basic and advanced platforms that PurpleLeap has helped students to develop. Vision controlled, robot controlled through objects/ human motion and color were also exhibited. Quirky robots like the Robot which danced to the beat of the tabla were the highlight of the show.
PurpleLeap spearheaded the enablement of Robotics education in India and has currently taken the field to tier 2 and 3 cities across India. The PurpleLeap robotics programme includes setting up Robotics Centres of Excellence, high-tech labs that include robotic kits, and engaging robo-soccer systems in each of these colleges.
Speaking about the exhibition Mr. Amit Bansal, CEO and Founder of PurpleLeap said,“Robotics as a sector presents huge employment opportunities in the coming years. While it appears to be a very exciting and interesting field in engineering, there exists a significant gap between perceptions and reality among students. We are trying to bridge this gap and equip students with the required knowledge and training in a field that is increasingly attracting eye-balls the world over. This is another step in our efforts to enhance the potential of engineering talent in India.”
