Drawing on data from studies done by America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) and Center for Policy and Research, DMN3 Institute Director and DMN3’s Director of Healthcare Marketing Robert M. Brecht, Ph.D., noted demographic differences for those that select Medicare Advantage plans versus other Medicare coverage options. This finding implies costs may be outweighing other factors in the selection process.

Keeping existing doctors is one of the key decision factors for the general senior population. However, this does not appear to be the critical criterion for those with lower income, who would be less likely to have had insurance prior to becoming eligible for Medicare. Therefore, this demographic would be less likely to have had an ongoing relationship with their doctors.

This research report is the second in the DMN3 Institute Medicare Research Publication Series. The publication series contains the responses of an online panel of 655 seniors between the ages of 64 and 69 who responded to a list of questions about Medicare insurance coverage.
