GE Healthcare today announced that Boston Medical Center (BMC) is live on a new version of Centricity Business, an enterprise-wide revenue cycle management solution that helps healthcare providers achieve greater profitability, and efficiency. This latest upgrade provides BMC with enhancements to simplify patient scheduling and registration, while delivering strong interoperability with Centricity EMR, GE Healthcare’s electronic medical records solution. BMC joins a growing number of healthcare organizations that are using GE Healthcare’s clinical and financial solutions to improve revenue cycle performance and enhance patient care.

“BMC has been using Centricity Business for over 10 years to deliver high performance and enterprise-wide revenue cycle growth," said Michelle Gabriel, director of patient access at Boston Medical Center.

“GE Healthcare’s service professionals were committed to BMC’s goals and prepared us with a successful transition to this latest version of Centricity Business. With this upgrade, we now have a common enterprise scheduling suite spanning the entire organization that helps us improve staff productivity, streamline appointments and accelerate revenue collection.”

Boston Medical Center is a non-profit 639 licensed-bed medical center created by the formal merger of the nation’s first municipal hospital, Boston City Hospital, and Boston University Medical Center Hospital in July 1996. It has the largest 24-hour Level I trauma center in New England and its Emergency Department had more than 131,000 visits in 2009. It employs more than 1,200 in-house physicians, 1,600 nurses and is the primary teaching affiliate of the Boston University School of Medicine.

“We’re pleased that Boston Medical Center has upgraded to this version of Centricity Business to drive efficiencies in enterprise-wide patient access and improvements to its core revenue cycle,” said Jim Corrigan, senior vice president and general manager of GE Healthcare IT. “ With this ‘go-live, ’ BMC further benefits from GE Healthcare’s open interoperability strategy by seamlessly connecting clinical and financial information, enabling them to reduce costs while enhancing the quality of patient care.”

Centricity Business is a proven, next-generation revenue cycle management solution that supports traditional and accountable reimbursement models for greater profitability, and efficiency. It is currently used by hundreds of leading healthcare organizations across the United States including 75% of those in the July 18, 2011 US News & World Report “2011-12 Best Hospitals Honor Roll.”

Centricity Electronic Medical Record is a powerful, robust ambulatory EMR that is certified for Meaningful Use. Used by nearly 18,000 clinicians, CEMR helps providers quickly and easily deliver and document higher-quality care. Customizable workflows streamline patient encounters. Collaboration and decision-support tools help clinicians elevate care. Integrated quality reporting metrics and the ability to benchmark against nearly 30 million de-identified patient records make it easy to demonstrate success.
