São José dos Campos, Brazil, 2012/05/10 - To promote awareness about the economic benefits of the air transport, Embraer this week is hosting the 6th Airline Business Seminar (ABS 2012), at its headquarters, in São José dos Campos - Embraer.com. NYSE: ERJ; Bovespa: EMBR3
A record number of participants, representing nearly 20 airlines, Embraer customers, financial and governmental institutions, and universities, will come together at the event. For the first time, representatives from the Caribbean are also participating. Speakers from several fields of knowledge connected with aviation will focus on subjects related to airline company strategies such as route and fleet planning, operations and performance, and aircraft financing, as well as the competitive environment, market trends, and future aeronautical technologies.
“The objective of this seminar is to discuss means for increasing the efficiency of airlines in the region,” said Paulo Cesar Silva, Embraer President, Commercial Aviation, in his opening remarks. “In addition to a favorable economic scenario, the continued growth of the middle class in Latin America and the Caribbean, and its access to credit have contributed to a significant increase in air travel. It is estimated that air transportation in the region will grow an average of 50% more than the rest of the world in the coming years.”
The Air Transport Action Group (ATAG) estimates that the aviation and air transportation industries, together, are responsible for more than 30 million jobs and a USD 2.2 trillion in economic impact, worldwide. Of this total, Latin America represents 8% in terms of jobs and 5% of the total value. Air transportation is an important force in generating socioeconomic growth and integration by connecting people, countries and cultures, by facilitating access to global markets, and by stimulating trade and tourism.
The success of the Latin American ABS led to the creation of similar events in the rest of the world. ABS Istanbul will also be held later this month, with a focus on Eastern Europe and the Community of Independent States (CIS). In the second semester of 2012, Embraer (embraer.com) will hold ABS for the Middle East, Africa and ABS Asia Pacific.
