The office furniture manufacturer, Hammerbacher GmbH, has connected its businesses in Neumarkt (Germany) and Pukanec (Slovakia) using abas ERP Multisite and VPN. Each location has entirely different requirements of abas Business Software.
The logistics center in Neumarkt stocks about 60,000 office furniture components which are delivered within brief timeframes. A service cockpit created in abas ERP provides support: with the click of a button all sales order information appears and actions, such as ordering spare parts or a credit note, can be triggered. The furniture factory in Slovakia, on the other hand, produces many variants and has to ensure quick delivery of the entire product line, while making sure batch sizes never become too small. The operating language and integrated financial accounting in Pukanec is Slovak.
Order today, move in the day after tomorrow
Speed is important in the highly competitive office furniture market and is a primary reason for Hammerbacher's success. Hammerbacher's main customers are mail-order companies and internet shops. The logistics center in Neumarkt maintains 60,000 office furniture components in stock, 92 percent of which can be delivered within 2 days after the order has been received. This guarantees a consistent readiness to deliver.
Before a standard solution was implemented Hammerbacher was using a customized software solution. "Our old system was perfectly tailored to our needs in Neumarkt," says Bernhard Hammerbacher who, together with his sister Ursula Hammerbacher, has been
managing the company since 1994. He remembers,"At some point we had to look for a new standard ERP software to meet our growing needs." One reason for this decision was that Hammerbacher was depending largely on the old individual system.
The selection process for new business software was very extensive. The ERP system is too important for the office furniture manufacturer's business success and the selection could not be carried out casually. Mr. Hammerbacher continued,"Our main goal was to not let processes deteriorate. Our business thrives on quick delivery. We also needed to smooth out company-wide processes and consolidate the company IT systems, which consisted of many isolated solutions. The contract was awarded to abas Business Software with the implementation partners ABAS Projektierung (Nuremberg) for the Neumarkt location and amotIQ in Pukanec."
International Multisite solution
"In Pukanec semifinished products, which require the same material for processing, were combined and optimized at the respective machines," explains Bernhard Hammerbacher. "We have a page tab in our system "Multisite y/n". If Multisite is active all processes spanning both sites will be triggered. It is very important for us to use the respective accounting in each country. abas ERP makes this possible. In Germany, we use German accounting and in Slovakia the Slovak accounting."
Transparency with the click of a button
In Neumarkt Hammerbacher Gmbh is a pure logistics company, apart from a very small production arm. Ursula Hammerbacher explains,"We receive about 50 to 60% of our orders via remote data transmission. The remaining sales orders are recorded manually. So we created a fast entry screen which is controlled only via keyboard and without a mouse. The sequence of the entry is specified in the screen." Ursula Hammerbacher on the service cockpit represented in the software,"This is a masterpiece. A quick delivery time also requires a quick processing of questions or queries regarding the sales order. In our service screen we can search for almost anything, such as ZIP code, delivery address, customer sales order number, etc. There is no other way to do this with 150 to 200 sales orders a day."
