Coms plc today opens its online store, Coms Express. The store offers all the basic equipment required, such as internet enabled handsets and headsets, to start using internet telephony to make cheap or free calls. The internet based telephone call service from Coms is set to dramatically change telephone pricing and give the mobile operators a run for their money.
Making calls over the internet uses an application called Voice over Internet Protocol (or VoIP). VoIP means that conversations are transmitted over the internet to other online users or even to normal telephones. Coms operates its own VoIP network and calls are cheaper than traditional services because they are made using the customers existing broadband connection. There are no hidden connection charges.
Juniper Research estimates the global market for VoIP hardware to be worth £2.8 billion by 2007. This figure will be largely due to individuals and businesses migrating from the existing Public Service Telephone Network (PSTN) to Internet telephony services.
Selecting the right VoIP hardware is the key to cost saving and maximising the benefits of VoIP. Coms Express has been set up to help guide customers through the process and features hints and tips to help first time users get up and running. Coms Express supplies equipment for use with all internet telephony, including Skype.
“We have selected the most reliable and quality hardware on the market, to sell through our online retail store. These products will help people to use the internet to make cheap and free calls. The internet based telephone call service from Coms is set to dramatically change telephone pricing and give the mobile operators a run for their money,” says Terry Martin, CEO of Coms.
“As well as our business customers we are seeing significant take up from home users because our products are so easy to use. Customers can choose a microphone that plugs directly into their PC or MAC, or a dual phone that automatically locates and hops onto wireless networks at home or on the move,” said Richard Bennett, commercial development director at Coms.
Coms Express puts an end to expensive hotel phone and mobile roaming charges when calling from overseas.
The Pirelli DP-L10, a combined GSM WiFi phone, is deigned to be portable and can therefore be carried anywhere, even abroad. This phone has the ability to automatically search for, and connect to, any Wi-Fi access point, whether at work, at home, at a hotel or at a local internet Cafe. If no access point is available it routes call over the GSM network. It costs just £199 and can be delivered within seven days.
