LANXESS at Chinaplas 2012, April 18-21 - Booth Number: N1E01
• New high-tech plastics application development center in Hong Kong;
• LANXESS showcasing latest solutions to drive Green Mobility at Chinaplas 2012.
The specialty chemicals company will open a new application development center in the Hong Kong Science & Technology Park in the second half of 2012. The new center will have computer aided development and engineering facilities, as well as a parts testing center, focusing on the company’s high-tech plastics Durethan and Pocan.
LANXESS is already established in the Asian region through its flagship brands for high-tech plastics Durethan (polyamide) and Pocan (polybutylene terephthalate), which represent a lighter-weight plastic alternative to metals such as steel or aluminum. In addition, they enable carmakers and car parts suppliers to realize considerable savings by providing less costly production methods and easier assembly. They can be found, for example, in engine bearings, door structures, front ends and seat cross-members.
“We look forward to working hand-in-hand with our Asian customers to develop new, lighter-weight plastic solutions that drive Green Mobility,” said Martin Kraemer, CEO of LANXESS Greater China. “LANXESS is clearly committed to new technologies and products that lead to a cleaner, safer, more sustainable form of transportation for people and goods.”
LANXESS will be showcasing its high-tech plastic products at Chinaplas - Asia’s largest and most important plastics and rubber trade fair - from April 18 to 21. Other products on show include organic dyes, plasticizers and flame retardants for plastic applications; iron oxide pigments used as colorants in plastics and a new additive product line BioAdimide. The highly innovative additive enables the production of renewable, bio-based polymers for durable applications with a lower environmental impact.
Booming automotive industry in China
China has become the world’s largest automotive market and is expected to grow by up to eight percent this year. This growth is increasingly being driven by domestic consumption and the growing purchasing power of China’s burgeoning middle class. According to a study by consultants A.T. Kearney, 800 million Chinese will achieve middle-class status by 2030.
At the same time, the Chinese government is consciously promoting sustainable growth for the economy by supporting energy conservation and a comprehensive utilization of resources. The 12th Five-Year Plan sets an ambitious goal of reducing CO2 emissions per unit of GDP by 40-45 percent by 2020.
“This policy has a direct impact on the industries of China and on the companies that want to do business in China. It is a clear challenge for us to develop innovative technologies that power Green Mobility,” said LANXESS’ Kraemer.
One of the most effective ways to save fuel and protect the environment is to build lighter cars and this is where Durethan and Pocan can play a key role. LANXESS has just expanded its capacities for the high-tech plastics at its compounding plant in Wuxi, Jiangsu province, to approximately 60,000 metric tons per year. In addition, the company has just opened a new 20,000 metric tons per annum high-tech plastics compounding facility in Jhagadia, India, to serve the booming local market. Polymers are mixed and refined with additives or glass fibers in the compounding facility to produce Durethan and Pocan as per customer needs.
Greater China (mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macao) is a cornerstone of LANXESS’ global growth strategy and the company is targeting more than EUR one billion sales there in 2012.
