Featuring the power, easy starting and low noise hallmarks of Subaru’s EX engine line, the 4.3-horsepower EX13 Greens Mower Engine also incorporates a unique design to suit the needs of golf course superintendents. Furthermore, the engine is backed by Subaru’s new 5-year limited warranty.
Initially custom-designed for the Toro™ Greensmaster® Flex™ mower line, the EX13 Greens Mower Engine features a specially designed longneck fuel tank, offering ease during refueling, while also preventing costly, potentially damaging fuel spills. Toro™, a leader in the production of innovative golf course maintenance equipment, also requested eliminating the reduction on the engine to change the rotation direction of the crankshaft. This alteration is crucial for the application, as it allows a slower operation speed for greater precision on delicate, expensive greens.
Featuring OHC technology synonymous with the EX engine line, the EX13 Greens Mower Engine is designed for optimum engine performance. The intake and exhaust valves are ideally positioned to offer lower resistance for the air/fuel mixture flow. Combined with a highly efficient pent-roof-type combustion chamber, the engine utilizes a high compression ratio, producing higher power and torque while limiting exhaust emissions and fuel consumption.
Fast, easy starting, even in cold weather operation is another advantage of the EX13 Greens Mower Engine. An automatic decompression system reduces the required recoil pulling force by 30- to 40-percent when compared with overhead valve (OHV) engine designs. The engine starts easily, even in temperatures as low as 15-degrees Fahrenheit, without any perceptible kickback.
With fewer moving parts, OHC engines produce less mechanical noise than competitive technologies. Combined with an optimized capacity rigid muffler, the Greens Mower Engine is a full 2dBA (decibel level) quieter and softer in exhaust tone than other same-class engines.
To combat excessive heat, the primary cause of engine failure, Subaru’s patent-pending cooling technology is incorporated into the EX13 Greens Mower Engine to provide outstanding cooling performance. Special heat dissipation fins have been built into the mounting base, cylinder and both the inner and outer crankcase surfaces, utilizing every possible cooling area. Additionally, the OHC technology allows for 360-degree airflow around both the exhaust and intake valve stem areas.
Engine durability is further enhanced by a patent-pending oil delivery system. A unique oil scraper attached to the connecting rod supplies oil to the cam chain. The cam chain then carries the oil to the overhead cam and valve train. A special rocker cover design and breather system keep the camshaft and rocker arm bathed in oil, yet prevent spouting.
The EX13 Greens Mower Engine meets EPA and CARB emissions regulations.
