Embedded World 2012 Exhibition and Conference took place in Nürnberg form february 28th to March 1st to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the event. During the event, Gianluca Venere, partner of SECO and leader for single board computers, spoke about the reasons why SECO is fully committed to Qseven technology, introducing Nvidia Carma platform, which is based on ARM Cortex-A9 quad core and a multicore GPU. Gianluca Venere also presented the first Qseven module with Freescale i.MX 6 series technology processor and a new module based on TI OMAP4. About QSeven x86, SECO is going to present the new Qseven based AMD G series APUs.
In the embedded boards world by SECO there is also a brand new platform: Nvidia Carma platform, the best solution regarding the low power consumption HPC architectures!Nvidia Carma platform is the first hybrid platform based on ARM Cortex-A9 quad core and a multicore GPU through a fully scalable and standard solution: Qseven module based on Nvidia Tegra 3 + Nvidia Quadro 1000M GPU.
The model of GPU computing is to use a CPU and GPU together in a heterogeneous co-processing computing model; the sequential part of the application runs on the CPU and the computationally-intensive part is accelerated by the GPU: the goal is to provide acceleration for new generation of low power consumption HPC architectures. In fact, from the user's perspective, the application runs faster thanks to the use of high-performance of the GPU to boost performance.
GPU has evolved to reach the best power consumption/performance ratio compered to a pure CPU performance. Features of SECO® QUADMO747-X/i.MX6 Qseven module based on i.MX6 technology:
• Flexible solution from a multi-display platform to a mobile fanless application driving up to 4 independent LVDS with resolution up to 1920*1200 or HDMI up to 1080p.
• SECO® QUADMO747-X based on i.MX 6 technology/i.MX6 is available with DDR3 on board (up to 4GB), as mass storage it can be configured with eMMC soldered on board and 1x microSD card slot onboard at the same time or as options. Standard interface 1x SATA, MMC/SD/SDIO, 5 USB, GbETH, CAN for automotive applications.
• BOARD SUPPORT PACKAGE (BSP) and API Pack that allow the user to run immediately the module with an OS (Linux and/or Android and MS OSs); all provided by SECO®.
With other embedded solutions project presented by SECO, there is QUADMO747-X/OMAP4, the Qseven® Module integrating the newest and extremely powerful ARM platform OMAP™ 4. It represent the perfect balance between performance and power consumption and it is based on a DUAL-CORE ARM® Cortex™-A9 architecture, with frequencies of 1 or 1.5GHz. It is able to satisfy all kind of requirements, from ultra low power consumption to highest 3D graphical applications. The module allows also the control of up to 3 different monitors simultaneously, even for FullHD displays, using integrated HDMI interface.
