Despite major advances in clinical operations over the past decade (CTMS, ePRO, EDC, IVRS, etc.), management of site, investigator, and vendor payments has remained a technological backwater in the clinical trials industry. Mr. Whitaker and Mr. El-Assi will discuss the cutting edge of automated payment processes and opportunities for integration with EDC and other established clinical computer systems.

Sam Whitaker is the CEO of Greenphire, the industry leading provider of clinical payment technology solutions. Sam has developed and deployed two global clinical payment technologies at Greenphire, designed to automate each type of clinical payment including site payments, patient payments, and vendor payments. Prior to founding Greenphire, Sam was a Vice President in the Global Transaction Services group of Citigroup's prepaid card division, where he was responsible for the development of new payment technology platforms. Sam holds a BA from the University of Pennsylvania.

Zaher El-Assi is an entrepreneurial professional with over 15 years experience in various areas of the healthcare, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical industries and the world renowned Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. His initiatives focus on commercialization, business development, financial planning, strategic sourcing, and product management.

Mr. El-Assi currently serves as the General Manager for Merge eClinical, a division of Merge Healthcare, specializing in technology services and solutions for the clinical trials industry. Along with leading the strategic activities of Merge eClinical, his expert knowledge of healthcare technology has been a critical component of Merge's entrance into new markets, leading the company's recent acquisition of KIKA Clinical Solutions, and positioning Merge as a top clinical technology provider. Prior to Merge Healthcare, Zaher served as Vice President of Global Sales and Strategic Partnerships at KIKA Clinical Solutions.
