National Geographic Learning, part of Cengage Learning and a provider of quality educational and ELT materials for the K-12, academic and adult education markets, today announced significant adoptions of their K-5 Science and K-8 English as a Second Language (ESL) products in Florida and Texas, respectively.
National Geographic Learning (NGL) Science has been adopted by 21 school districts in the state of Florida, including Hillsborough County, the third-largest district in the state. This innovative and forward-thinking science product is a newcomer to the K-5 science sector and has achieved 28 percent market share in the state – reaching more than 320,000 elementary students. These students will have the opportunity to experience a research-based program that brings science learning to life. Covering all aspects of science – science inquiry, science content and scientific literacy – NGL Science works with educators to immerse students in the nature of science, unlock big ideas, build scientific and content literacy, and get students to think objectively as scientists. The product was created to be customizable, so as to target the specific individual science standards in any given state.
NGL’s numerous ELT products span elementary school through high school and teach students and instructors the skills necessary to unlock the power of reading, writing and language instruction. In Texas, three of NGL’s ELT products have been widely successful in the K-8 space and are being used in over 200 of the state’s school districts – reaching close to 650,000 ESL students. NGL’s product adoptions in Texas include:
Reach – Develops language, vocabulary, reading and writing skills for elementary (K-5) students. The product actively engages and immerses students in a connected, expanding and dynamic language environment, while layering essential skills and strategies to move all learners towards language independence.
Inside – Helps middle school (6-8) students to discover the power of reading, writing and language instruction as they work together to move students to grade-level performance. The product promotes achievement, contains inspirational and motivational content, specialized strategies, focused instruction and explicit teaching with built-in assessment to ensure success.
Milestones – Developed specifically for middle school (6-8) English language learners, Milestones offers solid language instruction and is enriched with options to better prepare students for success on standardized exams. Features include embedded assessment, enhanced vocabulary instruction, differentiated instruction for each reading selection, phonics and intervention strategies and more.
“We are thrilled that customers are responding so well to these innovative Science and ELT products,” said Vincent Grosso, vice president, sales and marketing, National Geographic Learning. “These products are developed by some of the most respected authors and subject-matter experts in the industry and have been specifically designed to promote academic excellence, increase student engagement, improve learning outcomes and provide authoritative, thorough content.
