The International Management Film Festival (IMFF) which is coming to the Middle East for the first time will have 16 films, catering to the requirements of an elite audience of management professionals from across the region, announced the Dubai Quality Group, (DQG), the non-profit organization dedicated to raise the general performance level of the local business environment.
Speaking at a press conference organized to announce the details of the IMFF Dubai 2006, Mr. AbdulQader Obaid Ali, Chairman of DQG, said: “The festival will bring to the fore the clear objective of how "Learning through seeing" and consequently "Learning through doing" and "Learning through thinking" can happen. A total of 16 films in various segments, covering wide-ranging themes are being arranged for screening.”
“The IMFF aims at creating a new renaissance in learning management and believes learning through films helps in perception development, faster learning and more effective & better understanding. We are optimistic the IMFF Dubai 2006 will act as a springboard for the HR professionals here and in the region to effectively increase the contribution manifold to their respective organizations,” Mr. Obaid Ali said.
To be held at Le Meridien Hotel Dubai, the theme of the IMFF Dubai 2006 will be “Ideas aren’t enough - Strategies and Tactics for Innovation”. Professionals can select the area of their interest to watch these films and interact with others in an open exchange-sharing platform. The program is in line with the International Management Film Festival – USA.
The duration of the films, which are chosen from a library based on relevance and themes, range from two minutes to 30 minutes or more. The IMFF, which believes in encouraging education and learning through films, is an international non-profit organization whose service motto is: “sharing of knowledge through management films”.
Statistics point out that on an average, a person is able to retain only 10% information by reading, 20% by hearing, 30% by seeing but 50% by hearing and seeing. However, by holding discussions on a topic, a person can retain 70% of the information, which increases to 80% by experiencing it and an overwhelming 95% by sharing the information with others.
The IMFF guides the strategic intent and the success of the festival from input point of view. Major producers/ suppliers of management films are a part of this network that helps in quality control and input besides academic management of the project.
“The IMFF philosophy also revolves around the fact – ‘when you share you believe; when you believe you accept; when you accept you practice and when you practice you change.’ Businesses across the globe are fast moving and the process of change is endemic. This is why the IMFF aims at creating a new renaissance in learning management,” said Mr. Obaid Ali.
“It is a privilege for DQG to bring such a festival to Dubai. We are sure the themes of these movies will bring in the change in thinking that is required for professionals in a modern metropolis like Dubai to be attuned to globally-accepted present day corporate culture. Like most of our events in the past, this is another event that DQG is proud to bring to Dubai,” remarked Mr. Obaid Ali.
“Additionally, DQG is also planning to bring a number of international events and conferences to Dubai. Besides the IMFF, DQG will bring the World HRD Congress that is scheduled for November 2007. Many more are in the pipeline,” pointed out Mr. Obaid Ali.
IMFF is very popular as a method of learning and expression. It comprises screening "World-Class Management Films", eliciting audience interaction. Besides the learning theories in vogue today, an International Management Film Festival fulfils the PLAI objective – Promoting Learning through Active Interaction.
Since inception in February 1994, the DQG has grown to include more than 2,000 individuals representing over 330 prominent organizations from both the private and public sectors. The Group organizes activities aimed at developing the professional and managerial expertise of individuals.
Moreover the monthly workshops, that total more than 33 per year, provide members with the tools & techniques to implement new management theories, instituted by DQG depicting Dubai's drive for quality to maintain the competitive edge and realize the vision of becoming the world's most favorite centre for business and trade.
