EnerNOC, Inc., a leading provider of energy efficiency solutions for commercial, institutional, and industrial energy users, today announced that its customer, EMD Millipore, the Life Science division of Merck KGaA of Germany, has won the 2011 Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) New England Best Corporate Energy Management Program Award for its exceptional energy management program encompassing energy efficiency, demand response, and other energy-saving initiatives. The awards were presented in early February at an event hosted by AEE New England, the local chapter of the international association for energy engineering and energy management professionals. AEE New England’s Energy Project Awards are presented to projects that exhibit exceptional creativity and comprehensiveness, as well as innovative financing. As part of its award-winning energy management plan, EMD Millipore utilizes EnerNOC’s EfficiencySMART™ solution for its continuous commissioning program and participates in demand response through EnerNOC’s DemandSMART™ solution.
“With EnerNOC, we have the benefit of additional skilled energy analysts who can look at our building data and make it meaningful to us so that we can run our buildings more efficiently and achieve a fast return on our investment,” said Paul Lukitsch, Global Energy Manager at EMD Millipore.
EMD Millipore has developed a comprehensive energy management plan that encompasses more than 20 facilities, including laboratories, offices, and other commercial building space. This plan has enabled the firm to improve its efficiency efforts continuously over the past several years. Since its inception in 2008, the program has achieved savings of 18.5 million kilowatt hours and helped EMD Millipore move closer to its goal of reducing its global greenhouse gas emissions by 20 percent. Over 180 energy projects have been completed, and since EMD Millipore’s 2006 baseline year, this work has achieved an 18 percent energy reduction worldwide, while the firm grew its business by 50 percent over the same period.
EnerNOC’s most recent work with EMD Millipore has focused on its state-of-the-art, 130,000 square-foot research and development center in Bedford, MA, which contains a mix of sophisticated laboratories and office space. EnerNOC engineers commissioned all air handling units, variable-flow chilled water and hot water plants, steam boilers, laboratory and office variable air volume terminal units, and the exhaust system to fine-tune energy use throughout the facility. EfficiencySMART was then used to acquire, store, and analyze energy and building process interval data from EMD Millipore’s building systems, identifying opportunities to make low-cost or no-cost operational improvements. EnerNOC’s team presents these opportunities to EMD Millipore in a monthly scorecard, ranked by energy, carbon, and monetary savings, giving EMD Millipore staff a clear roadmap for future energy efficiency initiatives.
“EMD Millipore truly illustrates the value of a comprehensive energy management strategy. This award is a validation of their dedication to energy efficiency and a testament to the savings they have achieved,” said Tim Healy, EnerNOC’s Chairman and CEO. “We congratulate the EMD Millipore staff on this award and look forward to working with them to offer continuous energy savings opportunities.”
EnerNOC has delivered energy efficiency solutions to thousands of commercial, institutional, and industrial sites across its global network.
