It is with tremendous excitement that we announce that Coeus International School has been granted candidate status as an IB World School. While candidate status can be awarded within a year it usually takes between three and five years. Given that we are in our tenth week as an academic institution we feel this represents a considerable achievement by all here at Coeus, both students and especially faculty.
Our new status will have a considerable impact on the quality of teaching and learning here at Coeus. We will be visited by consultants from the IBO who will offer advice on our programs. We have access to the IBO's online curriculum center which is a considerable resource for professional development and development of quality academic programs.
The mission of Coeus International School is to educate young people to develop intellectual capacity and creativity, cultivate emotional intelligence and healthy relationships, achieve academic excellence and proficiency in world languages, value cultural diversity, and acquire peacemaking skills.
Dr. J. Daniel Hollinger is the Founder and Head of Coeus International School. An innovative and accomplished educator and leader, Dr. Hollinger founded Rock Creek International School in 1988 and served as the Head of School for 17 years. During his tenure, an exceptionally talented faculty and staff developed unique dual-language immersion programs in English, with the choice of Arabic, French and Spanish in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. Many of Dr. Hollinger's former colleagues have joined him at Coeus International School.
In establishing CIS, the founding members of the faculty and staff are offering another unique educational opportunity for young people in the Washington metropolitan area. CIS takes students beyond the restrictions of disciplines, languages, classrooms, school buildings, national borders and cultural stereotypes into a new realm of learning that inspires them to think, create, research, analyze, read and write far above and beyond traditional expectations.
