San Antonio, TX, United States, 2012/01/24 - Oracle Utilities announces successful participation in International Electrotechnical Commission's Common Information Model Standards Interoperability Testing. NYSE, NASDAQ: ORCL
Oracle announced its successful participation in the International Electrotechnical Commission's (IEC) Common Information Model (CIM) interoperability testing – demonstrating Oracle's use of CIM standards for the exchange of information supporting smart metering and distribution operations applications.
As utilities continue to roll out smart grid programs, they need scalable, high-performance technology infrastructures to process high volumes of consumption data generated by smart meters. Utilities require solutions that help improve operational efficiency across every department while enabling them to provide their customers with information that helps them monitor and manage their energy use.
IEC is advancing this accurate information exchange through the establishment of CIM standards. This model specifically encourages different utility software applications to exchange information such as distribution network configuration, device status and meter reads in a common, standard format.
Oracle applications and tools including Oracle Utilities Meter Data Management, Oracle Utilities Smart Grid Gateway and Oracle Utilities Network Management System passed all interoperability tests – including meter interval data transmission; outage communication, tamper and diagnostic device events; connect and disconnect device control; and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) and geographic information system (GIS) messages – without exception.
“Oracle's participation and successful application testing – meeting IEC requirements – demonstrates its commitment to ensuring utilities have the right applications and the best data to meet today's operational challenges,” said Rodger Smith, senior vice president and general manager, Oracle Utilities.
