Asiana Airlines, one of South Korea’s two major airlines, has adopted Oracle® Exadata Database Machine and Oracle Business Intelligence 11g to enhance the performance of its Business Information System (BIS) which supports critical duties such as just-in-time customer and revenue analysis.
IT service provider Asiana IDT, a subsidiary of the Asiana Airlines, carried out the BIS implementation.
Asiana IDT selected Oracle Exadata Database Machine to deploy a high-speed BIS integrating and processing more than 12TB of airline reservation, ticket issuance and shipping data from various operational systems. The new platform enables Asiana Airlines to magnify business visibility and maximize revenue through timely and well-informed decisions.
Oracle Business Intelligence 11g enables users to better analyze customer requirements, forecast demand and make informed decisions faster.
The integrated solution enabled Asiana Airlines to improve its business agility by speeding up data analysis processes from 10 hours to less than 10 minutes – a 60x improvement - and reduce batch processing time by over five hours.
By implementing automated and paperless electronic reporting, user productivity improvements have resulted in an average saving of 3,000 man-hours per month.
Oracle Exadata and Oracle Business Intelligence 11g were purchased in May 2010 and the implementation was completed in February 2011.
During Oracle OpenWorld 2011 in San Francisco, Oracle recognized Chan Sung Lee of Asiana IDT as the Data Warehouse Leader of the Year award, Asia Pacific.
This award, one of several categories covered by the Oracle Excellence Awards, honors individuals across Asia Pacific, Europe, Middle East and Africa, Latin America / Caribbean, and North America who demonstrate excellent technical knowledge and innovative use of Oracle data warehouse technologies to the benefit of their business.
