NewswireToday - /newswire/ - Greenwich, CT, United States, 11/05/2006 - Libertarian Congressional candidate Phil Maymin has completed his one-man march in all seventeen towns in Connecticut’s fourth district.

“It does not take a million people to make a difference,” said Maymin, “It all starts with one man following his heart. We always rely on our heart for our major decisions, such as an election."

Maymin, 31, is locked in a tight three-way race for the district’s seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, running against two-time Democratic challenger Diane Farrell, 51, and ten-term incumbent Republican Christopher Shays, 61.

Over the past five days, Maymin marched along the main streets in each town in the district, which stretches from Greenwich, one of America’s wealthiest towns, to Bridgeport, the largest city in Connecticut, and up through the Naugatuck River Valley towns of Oxford and Shelton.

“It was a pleasure going to all of the towns,” said Maymin. “Each had its own unique charm and the people were delightful. Many recognized me from the debates or from TV and many became fans once they heard the message of freedom, lower taxes, and an actual exit strategy for Iraq.”

Maymin was joined by volunteers at some of his stops, including high school students, Korean war veterans, and recent immigrants from as far away as New Zealand.

“The Libertarian message is easy to articulate,” explained Maymin. “Republicans and Democrats have to worry about offending their special interest supporters. But as a Libertarian, I don’t believe in special interests and am proud that I am not beholden to any.”

Maymin’s opponents in the race have both been endorsed by traditionally big government groups such as unions.

On Wednesday, November 1, Maymin marched in Bridgeport and Fairfield. On Thursday, November 2, he marched in Weston and Westport. On Friday, November 3, he marched in Greenwich. On Saturday, November 4, he marched in Monroe, Shelton, and Trumbull in the morning, and Stamford, Darien, New Canaan, Wilton, Easton, and Oxford in the evening. On Sunday, November 5, he marched in Ridgefield, Redding, and Norwalk.

Maymin message of smaller government resonates well with the public. During his march, Maymin also held two town meetings, one in Fairfield on Wednesday and one in Westport on Thursday, and has appeared on national TV twice, once on Tucker Carlson’s Wednesday show on MSNBC and once on MSNBC News Live with David Shuster on Sunday. He has also appeared on multiple local radio programs including Talk of the Town with Jim Buchanan on WICC600 live on Wednesday and on a special election week program with Erik Campano on WSTC1400/WNLK1350 on Sunday, recorded a few days earlier. Maymin also appeared at a candidates forum in Bridgeport’s Congregation Rodeph Shalom. Shays and Farrell also attended, along with several local and state candidates.

Maymin (mayminforcongress.com) has invited Shays and Farrell to join him for the last debate on Monday, November 6, the evening before the election. The debate will take place at Stamford’s Ferguson Library at 7pm. If either or both of his opponents do not appear, Maymin has announced that he will answer for them. The event is free and open to the public and will be based on audience questions.
