Sunnyvale, CA, United States, 2011/12/06 - With a greater threat from cybercrime driving a greater need for security, Midwest BankCentre (MBC) is introducing an award-winning, online banking security platform in St. Louis - IronKey.com.
MBC is the first bank in St. Louis to offer IronKey Trusted Access™ secure browsing technology on a Universal Serial Bus (USB) device. According to an August 2011 report by the Financial Services Information Sharing and Analysis Center, there has been a 150 percent increase in cyber-attacks against U.S. online bank accounts between 2009 and 2010.
The IronKey Trusted Access platform helps to prevent identity theft, payment fraud and online banking account “takeover” by cybercriminals. Trusted Access devices are carried by bank customers to plug into any computer to safely access their online bank accounts. They are available to all MBC business account holders. Online banking transactions are the most at-risk for cybercrime.
"Cybercriminals attack businesses, governments and individuals on their own computers with 'crimeware' that goes undetected," said Larry Albrecht, MBC senior vice president-operations. “The affordable online banking security from IronKey helps us protect our customers and mitigates the risks of online banking."
The easy-to-use Trusted Access device (hangs from a keychain) inserts into the USB port of any computer. Users then log in with a personal password and a secure Web browser opens to the MBC homepage. The browser – which runs outside of the computer’s operating system – allows users to then safely navigate websites pre-approved by MBC and authenticated by IronKey. Transactions with secure sites are then better protected from criminals.
The Anti-Phishing Working Group estimates that 45 percent of U.S. computers are infected with crimeware designed to steal money. Additionally, current anti-malware software fails to detect these threats at least 75 percent of the time, according to real-time research from SpyEye Tracker.
Trusted Access meets guidelines set by the Federal Financial Institutions Examinations Council (FFIEC) that go into effect in January 2012. It also meets the Electronic Payments Association (NACHA) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) recommendations for safe online banking. IronKey’s device management platform is so advanced that it is the preferred online protection service used by U.S. defense and intelligence services.
