Mr. Leggett values the sincerity, loyalty, love and support offered by a very hard working, highly educated, financially successful and well informed Indian American community. The entire cross section of the Indian community in Montgomery County supports Ike Leggett for County Executive.
Vijay Khetarpal, President of Integrity Financial Group and President Elect of the Potomac Rotary Club, battling traffic on a daily basis, wishes that Ike had a magic wand to create a bridge to connect 270 with the Dulles Toll road but understands his limitations. Mr. Khetarpal strongly believes that Ike Leggett is a great candidate in every way to represent the changing population of Montgomery County and is personally pleased to see that the Indian community at large is now more interested, active as well as involved in the legislative system. Vijay Khetarpal arranged a fund raiser for Ike Leggett campaign back in July that was hosted by Deepak Khemka at his restaurant India Bistro on Shady Grove road. Mr. & Mrs. Kapani as well as Feroz & Henazia Doud who are actually Fairfax county residents, attended the event because they echoed Mr. Khetarpal's sentiment of getting involved in the political system for the community advancement.
Ike stands strong on all issues which are important to the Asian Indian community. He supports immigration rights with a healthy respect for diversity and cultural richness it brings to the community. He has been a strong defender of civil liberties which have seen a steady erosion in recent years. Ike began his life in meager circumstances and has risen to his current prominence through hard work and merit. No wonder he is committed to strengthening public education, ensuring opportunities for all. He will certainly bring much needed diversity to the county government. Tanya Virdy Owner of Camille's Sidewalk Cafe in Arlington is a long time Montgomery County resident and supports Ike for his outlook on education since 3 of her children study in Montgomery County Public Schools.
Mr. Leggett communicated his admiration and commitment to the Indian community in a statement to Anila this morning, "I see my election about consensus building among broad array of people in Montgomery County, especially the Indian American community for its educational achievements and economic success. I hope to see many Montgomery County Boards and Commissions encompass Indian American members to garner their knowledge and experience for the greater good of the County's Economic Development as well as better education for our children."
Anila Pahwa a Licensed Realtor® in MD/DC/VA says, "As a realtor and a 22+ year resident of Montgomery County, I love the property appreciations twice as much as any other Montgomery County resident. However, I am concerned about the rapidly reducing chances of our kid's being able to afford to live in this wonderful county where they grew up. That is one of the reasons why I support Ike and his views on managed growth. I believe that Ike's is a ray of hope to keep housing affordable in Montgomery County. It’s a great County that we live in and it hurts me when I see that many 2 income households even cannot afford to buy a property in Montgomery County"
Mr. Pardeep S. Aneja an entrepreneur and an active member of Guru Nanak Foundation of America shared that Indian Sikh community has a unique respect for Ike because he was instrumental in the zoning approval of Guru Nanak Foundation of America Guruduara on Old Columbia pike. Over twenty five years ago, at the time of GNFA's inception the surrounding residential community had put up strong opposition, but Ike had stood in favor of the house of God and believed that it will strengthen the community. Thanks to Ike's stand in favor of the GNFA, it has become pivotal to the larger Sikh community who often prefer to live in close proximity to the Guruduara and have paid top dollars for the properties in the rapidly growing Route 29 corridor.
Mr. Ken Bajaj and Mr. Promod Sharma both extremely successful, well accomplished entrepreneurs and philanthropists of the community, confirmed their support for Ike Leggett as the Montgomery County Executive.
Dr. Renuka Misra a scientist at NIH, of strong political roots as well as Dr. Pradeep Ganguly; both very well known community leaders are strong supporters of Ike Leggett and have hosted numerous fund raisers for Ike's campaign. Dr. Misra's endorsement brings Ike the support from all the members of the GLOBAL ORGANIZATION OF PEOPLE OF INDIAN ORIGIN DC Chapter. Simply because they genuinely believe in Ike's capabilities and views on many issues that are best for rapidly progressing Montgomery County which is a true melting pot. The changing face of Montgomery County needs a new and fresh leadership to deal with the Asian American community's human relations issues and its representation in the County Government. Ike's open door policy and accessibility to everyone in the community with his lovely wife Catherine has been incredible and a breath of fresh air instead of the pompous politics of the past.
Sonny & Veena Segal of Potomac, close friends of the Leggett's arranged several fund raisers including one recently at Dr. Sudhir & Anu Sekhsaria's splendid home in Potomac, a gala event with more than fifty doctors, business leaders, professors and teachers in attendance. Gurpreet Takhar of Café Spice at Rio in Gaithersburg offered his support by catering a wonderful spread for the event. The Segals have known Ike since 1987 when Ike was on the Montgomery County Council and Mr. Segal worked for the County Executive. Mr. Segal recalls Ike’s contributions to Montgomery County with great admiration. “Ike is that rare lawmaker who sincerely represents the interests of the diverse people of Montgomery County. His calm, fair, forthright, and approachable demeanor makes him stand out among his peers. He will make a great County Executive”, he maintains.
Mr. Dwarka Goswami, 87, a community leader, is the co-founder of the Hindu Temple of Metropolitan Washington on Riggs Road in Silver Spring. When asked why he supports Ike, he says with great wisdom, “Ike is a wonderful leader and a thorough gentleman. The Indian community of Montgomery County is fortunate to have him in government. I expect him to make Governor of Maryland one day”. Mr. Goswami explains that he was impressed by Ike’s open arms approach to the idea of having the Hindu Temple in Montgomery County to help preserve the values that produce a community of teachers, doctors, lawyers, scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs.
Ike has demonstrated his support of the Indo American community by visiting us in our temples and Guruduaras and in our homes to understand our values. Ike has acted on matters that are important to our community to include the maintenance of one of the highest standards of education in the country; to improve the public health by voting to ban smoking in public places; and to support funding to maintain the highest level of public safety, law and order. Ike’s contributions to alleviating transportation gridlock and to keep the County’s growth at a controlled pace has made him the obvious choice for the support of the Indian community in Montgomery County. It is because of these reasons that we expect a large vote for Ike on Nov. 7 from the Indo American community resulting in his victory. We are all united in efforts and prayers to support Ike Leggett in every way we can as a community. We wish Ike Leggett the well deserved success in this race and welcome him as our leader for many years to come.
