Based on its recent analysis of the automotive powertrain market, Frost & Sullivan recognises Rototest with the 2011 European Frost & Sullivan New Product Innovation Award for its hub chassis dynamometer. This highly simplified product supports ease-of-use, increased operational safety, cost benefits and the effective measurement of key vehicle parameters, making it an ideal solution for a wide range of users involved in vehicle testing.
"Rototest's dynamometer is ten times more accurate than rolling road testing systems," notes Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Hariher Balasubramanian. "It also offers increased productivity, which is more than five times that of conventional systems."
Rototest's dynamometer requires only half the installation costs associated with conventional systems. It needs only a flat floor setup, thus eliminating the need for a moving floor setup. Customers therefore gain rapid and consistent returns on investment in the form of enhanced productivity and reduced initial and maintenance costs.
"Unlike bulky and heavy conventional systems, Rototest's design is sleek, light weight and easy-to-handle," adds Balasubramanian. "The frame design of the hub chassis dynamometer also allows for non-dangerous change of steering angles while under load."
The solution is designed and optimised for the speed and torque seen on the drive wheel hubs, unlike conventional systems that monitor parameters measured from the tyres. It uses an efficient control algorithm and implements the control strategy of Model Predictive Control with Adaptive Feedback.
High precision wheel adapters and adapter hubs, combined with high precision wheel nuts and bolts, assure that run-out is kept to an absolute minimum. Coil-over shock absorbers guarantee a stable and low vibration testing environment.
"In contrast to conventional systems, the dynamometer is completely safe from tyre blow-outs and tyre warranty problems," remarks Balasubramanian. "The test vehicle is fully supported by the dynamometer which, unlike conventional systems, does not require 'strapping' to be kept in place."
Rototest's product has the potential to become an industry standard, having demonstrated the accurate measurement of performance, fuel consumption and emission for almost every situation that a vehicle encounters on a road – all at lower maintenance costs and with the advantages of improved productivity. Robust build quality with minimum after-sales service requirements further underline its appeal.
In recognition of these features, Frost & Sullivan is proud to present Rototest with the 2011 New Product Innovation Award in the European automotive powertrain market. Each year, Frost & Sullivan presents this award to the company that has demonstrated excellence for the innovative element of its product, for leveraging leading edge technologies in its product and for the product's valued added features/benefits. The awards also lauds the product's potential for increased customer ROI and customer acquisition/penetration.
