Reno, Nevada attorney, Lee T.Hotchkin, recently won an important class action lawsuit for his clients, victims of the Fernley, Nevada flood of January 2008. In a decisive victory, Hotchkin recovered $10 million dollars for his 200 clients, members of the class action for the Truckee Canal embankment failure and resulting flooding.

The City of Fernley paid $5 million, Lyon County $1.3 million and an insurance company $3.8 million in the settlement of the class action lawsuit on behalf of the individual members of the board of directors of the Truckee Carson Irrigation District. “After four years, the plaintiffs are finally receiving their compensation.”, said the Reno Nevada Lawyer Hotchkin.

The Truckee Canal is part of the Newlands Irrigation Project, which provides surface water for Fernley and Fallon area farmers through water diversions from the Truckee River to Lake Lahontan. The Truckee Canal, which passes through Fernley, carries the diverted water more than 30 miles from Derby Dam on the Truckee River to the man made lake. The overflowing and breach of the canal resulted in more than 800 homes being flooded.

Hotchkin has been practicing law in Reno, Nevada and for over 25 years. He is an active member of both the Nevada and California State Bar Associations. His legal experience includes acting as the former Senior Chief Trial Deputy of Washoe County. Hotchkin is an experienced Reno trial lawyer with an emphasis on personal injury, family law, civil law, and criminal law.
