The EPA has devised a standard program RFS (Renewable Fuels Standard) that's aimed to double the use of renewable fuels like biodiesel and ethanol. This program recognizes the value of home-produced energy, and supports the rural sector by putting money on biofuel.

The program is designed to reduce the use of petroleum by around 3.9 Billion Gallons a year by the year 2012 and, also, to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 14 Million Tons per annum. EPA has also issued a regulation, which recommends that 3.71% of all gasoline sold/dispensed to the motorists in US, in 2007, should be renewable fuel.

RNCOS has recently published a report "New Opportunities in US Biofuel Market (2006)" in which it has provided a comprehensive analysis of every aspect of the Biofuel market in the US. "The US, world's largest oil user, is also the 2nd largest Biofuel producer in the world, after Brazil. Government has said that the output of ethanol, collected from woody and corn Biomass materials, will reach around 8 Billion Gallons per year by 2012, doubling the current output of the gasoline additive", according to the report.

Issues and facts analyzed in RNCOS' "New Opportunities in US Biofuel Market (2006)" report include:

- Past performance of Biodiesel and Ethanol in US
- Various government support programs supporting the growth of Biofuel
- Price Analysis of Biofuel with conventional fuels
- Impact of Biofuel on US oil sector
- Demand and supply situation for Biodiesel and Ethanol
