As Davos, a small town in Switzerland, has been referred to as capital of the World Economic Forum for 40 years already, Vilnius is to become such a symbol for the space sector. On 16-18 November space conference SEMWO (Space Economy in Multipolar World) is organized for he second time there and will host participants from USA, China, Japan, Russia and other countries.

The list of conference speakers encompasses guests, important to Lithuania’s prospects in this area, from the states implementing largest space programs. Igor Volk, the Commander of the USSR Space Shuttle Buran, and Karol J. “Bo” Bobko, the Astronaut of the USA Space Shuttle, will speak at the event and participate in the press conference. A separate conference for keynote speakers will be organized. Besides the representatives of the world space organizations, members of the Lithuanian Government will take part in it. The SEMWO will be opened and welcomed by Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius.

“As the world commemorates the 50th anniversary of the first human-piloted space flight, Lithuania has an exclusive opportunity to start its own countdown of the cosmic era. Today, with the space industry undergoing rapid commercialization processes and progress changing the form and scope of technology, even small countries may take part in the processes, which not so long ago were the privilege of the most powerful states. Participation of representatives of the largest space organizations and companies at the conference is a good proof for soundness of such ambitions,” – says Vidmantas Tomkus, the Director of the Lithuanian Space Association, the organizer of the conference.

The conference will focus on both, political and economic aspects and business opportunities, therefore interest of especially huge number of participants is expected. Business representatives working in the field of products and services related to the space sector or just having such plans will receive full information on the existing situation and future prospects in this area during the conference and will be provided with possibilities to make valuable contacts at a special contact meeting. Not just professionals, but also all interested are expected in exhibitions of international space shuttle models made in Lithuania, small satellites and space-program related robots to be held during the conference. More active participants will be able to take part in seminars and workshops providing an opportunity to get introduced to different space technologies.

More detailed schedule of the event and registration is available on the websites of Lithuanian Space Association space-lt.eu; first 80 participants will get free registration.
