Premier India Football Academy (PIFA) organised 3 camps in Mumbai for children 8-18 years. The three venues were St Andrews at Bandra from 15-18 Oct 2006, The Retreat, Marve from 19-23 Oct & the Sharad Pawar International School, Pune from 23-27 Oct, 2006.
The camp was conducted by the world famous Bobby Charlton Soccer & Sports Academy, Manchester, UK. Coaches Mathew Pearson & Peter Tickle were flown into India by PIFA to train 150 children with the use of special equipments in a fun & scientific way. The children got to train with Nike EPL balls.
Mr Godfrey Periera, ex-captain of India felicitated the winners at the St Andrews Camps. The Retreat camp was visited by Mahindra United, Head Coach U15 & U19 teams - Mr Santosh Kashyap
A number of seats were allocated free of cost to the less privileged. 5 from Akansha, 2 from Magic Bus, 6 from St Andrews, and 5 selected by Maharashtra Herald.
Skills test were conducted at the 3 camps and the winners have been invited to Manchester for the BCSSA World Skills Final in July 2007. The unbroken record score is that of David Beckham’s 1100 points.
The three winners were David Vaz (16) St Mary’s ICSE with 600 points- Sumehr Gwalani (15) Bombay International School with 580 points & Amitesh Mukherjee (16) R.N Poddar with 750 points.
Last years PIFA BCSSA Camp winner was Kean Lewis with 940 points, he stood 6th in the World Skills Final where he got 680 points, he then went for a trial to Leicester City FC. He now plays for the Mahindra United (under 15 team) & team for PIFA-Youngstar, a MDFA Senior Division team.
