Wiley-Blackwell, the scientific, technical, medical, and scholarly publishing business of John Wiley & Sons, Inc. (NYSE: JWa and JWb), and JISC Collections have successfully concluded a new three year NESLi2 agreement for the higher education and further education communities in the UK. This agreement offers libraries access to more than 1,500 journals on Wiley Online Library on mutually beneficial terms that take into account the financial challenges facing the library community at this time. Customers have flexibility and choice; they can choose to license the full collection or a subset – whichever best meets the needs of their researchers and students – and are able to balance their selections with their budget constraints each year.
The agreement also reflects Wiley’s recognition of cost per use as an important measure of value. By improving discoverability and increasing usage of its high quality content, Wiley (wiley.com) is committed to providing better value for customers and reducing the average cost per download across the consortium over the term of the license.
“We understand the challenges that UK academic libraries face and are pleased we were able to achieve an agreement that facilitates access to Wiley’s high quality publications necessary for a productive research and learning environment, ultimately supporting the outstanding scholarship coming out of the UK higher education community” said Reed Elfenbein, Vice President, Director of Sales and Marketing for Wiley- Blackwell.
Lorraine Estelle, CEO of JISC Collections said: “We are pleased to have reached agreement with Wiley in a timely fashion. Our negotiations were conducted against a backdrop of financial uncertainty in the UK higher education sector and Wiley listened to us and took this on board when putting together their proposal”
