Zvartnots International Airport was founded in 1961, and in 2010 it served about 1.4 million passengers. In 2002 concession agreement was signed with the Government of Armenia and "Armenia" International Airports" CJSC assuming the management of Zvartnots airport, and started the modernization of the airport infrastructure, to bring the airport services up to the international standards.
“Armenia” International Airports” CJSC renders a number of services, both aeronautical and non-aeronautical (passenger, baggage, cargo and ground handling services, aviation security, fueling, aircraft maintenance, etc). The company also supervises airport-related commercial activities (advertising, operation of duty free and duty paid shops, shopping centers, restaurants, coffee shops, provision of banking services, catering services, management of VIP and business lounges, etc.) The primary goal of the company is to improve operational performance of the airport and ensure provision of high quality services conforming to international standards.

On September 16, 2011 "Armenia” International Airports" CJSC conducted inauguration ceremony of the new passenger terminal of Zvartnots International airport. President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, Catholicos of all Armenians Karekin II, Ambassadors and other high-rank officials were present at the ceremony of the opening of Armenia’s new gate.
Construction was carried out in three stages: during the first stage the old airport infrastructure was renovated, including the runway and the airport airfield; new structures were built. The second stage included construction of the new passenger terminal with its arrival hall and departure sterile zone. The second stage was finished in 2007. The third stage - 2008-2011 implied construction of new terminal, public areas in arrival and departure halls and parking structure.

On October 5, 2011 Zvartnots new arrivals hall started operation; the first passengers arriving from Moscow were warmly welcomed. The departures hall is planned to open its doors on 29th October, 2011.
By the opening of the new terminal the annual throughput of the airport is expected to be 3.5 million passengers. The total area of the terminal is about 34,000 sq. m with 46 check-in counters, shops and restaurants. The terminal has a business lounge and a new VIP lounge, which is presently under construction and is planned to start operation in January 2012. The parking area has also been modernized and two-level parking is presently available for up to 600 vehicles.

Armenia International Airports committed itself to continue the renovation and expansion of the airport including construction of new structures to ensure provision of higher quality services.
